He also heads up contract management for more than 120 customers. Previously Paul was head of fixed sector product solutions, leading the fixed sector and data connectivity teams, and head of market development for data connectivity.

  Mr. Daniel Beazer

Daniel Beazer joined Tier1 Research in February 2011 as Senior Research Analyst EMEA covering the hosting, cloud computing, CDN and datacenter markets in the region.

Before joining Tier1, Daniel headed up Internap Network Services European business, starting Internap's datacenter, hosting, IP and CDN businesses from the scratch in the UK, and then, more recently leading the company's expansion into continental Europe. Prior to the wider management role, Daniel held the position of European counsel at Internap.

Educated at Oxford University, Daniel is also a member of the Bar of England and Wales.

Mr. Delfino Canas

Delfino Canas is portfolio development director at BT wholesale with responsibility to develop, execute and grow BT Wholesale strategy and portfolio for Cloud and Content, which leverages on its infrastructure and existing customer relationships.

Delfino joined BT in 2006 reporting to the CIO of BT Wholesale, with responsibility for the trouble to resolve customer experience. During the following two years he reduced significantly the broadband fault volume through a number of innovative solutions. In 2008 he moved to Global Service as director IP networking where his role was to improve the profitability of the Converge Solution business.

Before joining BT, Delfino was business strategy manager at Bechtel where he was responsible for defining the restructuring strategy for three health care networks in central Asia. During this time, he worked with a team of 30 specialists identifying and implementing potential business transformation opportunities.

Before Bechtel, Delfino was a senior project manager at Air Liquide where he managed multi millions oil and gas construction projects and developed innovative integrated solutions for steel, petroleum and energy industries.

Delfino has a Master of Science in process engineering and a MBA from Berkeley.

Mr. Jerry Caron

Jerry Caron brings more than 20 years of experience to Current Analysis as a market watcher and influential voice in the telecommunications and information technology industries.

As Vice President, Analysis, Jerry is responsible for overall management and content direction for the company’s CurrentCompete services, and is part of the corporation’s management team. He is responsible, along with the Principal and Senior Analysts within each module, for monitoring and evaluating activities in the telecommunications services, telecommunications infrastructure business infrastructure software and IT infrastructure markets, including the strategies and product development work of service providers, technology suppliers and solution providers.

Jerry was previously Current Analysis Research Director, IT Infrastructure, and originally joined the company in 2002 to provide coverage of the European enterprise telephony market. Before joining Current Analysis, Jeremiah was Publisher of CMP Media's, a business magazine for telecom and Internet service provider executives.

He has been a featured speaker at major industry events, including Interop and Supercomm, as well as numerous, specialized events and seminars. Jerry graduated with a B.A. from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia.

Mr. Axel Clauberg

Axel Clauberg joined Deutsche Telekom AG in September 2011. At the group level, he is responsible for Deutsche Telekom’s IP Architecture and Designs for fixed and mobile networks. Since December 2011, Axel respresents Deutsche Telekom AG on the ONF board.

Axel has been involved with networking and computing since 1982 and holds a diploma in Physics from the University of Cologne. In 1983, he worked as a freelancing trainer on operating systems, networking and systems programming for Digital Equipment Corporation. Axel led the networking department at the University of Cologne Computing Center from 1989 to 1998 and was one of the main drivers for the deployment of the Internet Protocol in the German research community.

In 1998, Axel joined Cisco Systems as a Consulting Engineer on Core IP technologies in the German team. In 2000, Axel moved to an international role in the Cisco EMEA Service Provider team and held various leadership roles. From 2005, Axel was part of the core team building the Emerging Markets sales organisation for Cisco. His territory included Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Central/Eastern Europe and Russia. From 2008 to 2011, he acted as Sales CTO in Emerging Markets and had the responsibility for solutions development and deployment across all market segments. Axel also had the content responsibility for Cisco’s flagship events Cisco Live and Cisco Networkers in Africa, Middle East, Europe and Latin America.

Mr. Joe Crawford

Joe Crawford is the executive director of the Cloud Services portfolio for Verizon Business.

Joe has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility at Verizon Business and its predecessor companies, bringing more than 15 years of experience in the design, development and deployment of cost-effective, high performance operations management and IT solutions management.

In his current role, Crawford leads the Hosting, Colocation, Remote Application Management, Data Center Outsourcing and Help Desk products. Before his current assignment, Crawford was assistant vice president of engineering for MCI and prior to MCI, Crawford founded the IT engineering organisation at Digex.

Mr. Jonathan Desmarais

Dr. Lucy Green

Lucy Green has been innovating telecommunications products and services since 1991. She has been Managing Director of Larato Limited since 2005 when she established the company to focus on the transition of the telecoms and IT markets to converged ICT.

Prior to this, Lucy served in senior Product, Development and Marketing positions in the fixed, mobile and satellite communications industries. As Product Director at ntl business, she was behind one of the UK’s most successful Enterprise Ethernet portfolios. As Product and Marketing Director at Kingston, she built the satellite division’s product portfolio that now trades successfully under the Arqiva brand, as well as supporting the group’s overall B2B strategy for fixed and mobile telephony.

Prior to this, Lucy spent seven years at News Corporation where she productised the technology emerging from the build of the Sky TV platform. She marketed the resultant suite of software and hardware products, supported the establishment of NDS and then led the integration of NDS’ broadcast system portfolio into Tandberg Television.

Lucy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and Mathematics from the University of London as well as a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Particle Physics from the University of Oxford. She has attended the Strategic Management Development Programme at Roffey Park.

Mr. Keith Humphreys

Keith Humphreys has been active in Local Area Networks distribution channels since their inception in Europe after initial experience gained in South Africa.

Sales channel management roles in Europe and for US based companies adds to the experience in mid-range computing and connectivity issues. As a consultant with euroLAN Research, based in the UK, he has worked with several major networking vendors in streamlining their European channels and in analysing their markets and competitors. He holds a degree in Engineering from the University of Westminster.

Research Engineer | Ericsson


Zoltán Lajos Kis is a Research Engineer, working in the Packet Technologies division of Ericson Research in Budapest, Hungary.

He received his degree in computer science from Budapest University of Technology and Economics in 2004. After participating in research projects on distributed algorithms and network management, he started working with Ericsson in 2007. He worked as system engineer of several products in the telephony gateway and in the user database areas. He joined Ericsson Research in 2010, where he started working on the OpenFlow ecosystem.

He contributed to the 1.1 release of the OpenFlow protocol, and has been following the evolution of the protocol since. He has been a member of ONF's extensibility working group since the beginning, where he received ONF's Outstanding Technical Contribution award at the end of 2011.

Mr. Brian Levy

Brian Levy has forty years of experience in the Communications, Media and Entertainment Industry and is now the VP & CTO for the Junos Applications Software Business of Juniper Networks.

He began his career with British Telecom in 1970 where he became an executive engineer and received a sponsorship to attend Salford University where he obtained an honours degree in electronic communication in 1978. From there Brian moved to the BBC and spent nine years with them working in all aspects of Broadcasting.

He then joined AT&T and became the Director of Network Services for the EMEA region. At AT&T Brian led the deployment of the EMEA Interspan frame relay network and deployed AT&T's first IP backbones in and major Web hosting services in the region. Brian was one of the co-founders of a $67million start-up company Aduronet which developed transformational network architecture.

In 2002 he rejoined BT as the Group Technology Officer for Service strategy and Innovation and initiated BT Vision (IP TV), BT FON (Wi-Fi sharing) and many of BT's leading services of today. In 2006 he joined HP as the CTO for their world wide $1bn software business in the Communications, Media and Entertainment sector.

Mr. Eric Loos
Sr Product Manager Capacity & IP | BICS


Eric Loos has recently moved into the role of Product Management for Capacity and IP at BICS after three years of managing the 2nd line infrastructure assurance.

Within assurance, he was responsible for the transmission and IP/MPLS transport platforms. He has over 10 years experience in the Service Provider segment, alternating between network engineering, architecture design and operational roles. Familiar with all stages of a network lifecycle, he has a unique perspective on the challenges faced by service providers and carriers.

Prior to assuming the assurance role at BICS, he was lead architect of the new IP/MPLS based Carrier Ethernet Service.

Eric previously worked at Cable & Wireless and its later management spin-off as member of the Global Design Authority IP and network director, respectively.

Dr. Karl May
President and CEO | Vello Systems


Karl May is a technology entrepreneur and executive who has been involved in the founding, funding, or management of over a dozen high technology companies over the past two decades, and has been at the forefront of IP routing, interactive television, the broadband revolution, and currently the emergence of software defined, virtualized networking.

He is a co-founder and the president and Chief Executive Officer, of Vello Systems, a closely held company delivering on the promise of virtualized networks with solutions for the data center WAN to optimize data protection and application mobility, revolutionizing the economics of enterprise and service provider infrastructure.

Prior to Vello, Karl served as president and CEO of OpVista, COO of CHIPSag, and Executive Chairman of AP Engines. He served as VP and General Manager of Bay Networks’ Broadband Technology Division (formerly LANcity), and pioneered the cable modem for hundreds deployed to millions. He also served as a leader in the early days of interactive television at Silicon Graphics, working with AT&T and TimeWarner Cable to deliver advanced services to televisions.

As a founder of Provectus Ltd., Karl co-developed an early IP router and brought it to market. He started his career as an engineer at Hewlett-Packard, working on the first RISC-based workstation. An honors graduate in electrical engineering he went on to earn a Dr-Ing from the TU Munich. Over the years, he has played key roles in the development of standards bodies, from ITU to DVB, to MPEG-LA, MIPS ABI, and DOCSIS, and is confident ONF will evolve with similar success.

Mr. Dave Meyer
Distinguished Engineer | Cisco


David Meyer is currently a Distinguished Engineer at Cisco Systems, where he works on future directions for Internet technologies such as OpenFlow and Software Defined Networking.

He has been a member of the Internet Architecture Board (IAB) of the IETF, where he has also chaired several working groups. He is an active and long-standing member of the Internet operator community and is currently chair of the NANOG program committee. He is also active in the Open Networking Foundation where he works on the evolution of the OpenFlow specification.

Prior to joining Cisco, he served as Senior Scientist, Chief Technologist and Director of IP Technology Development at Sprint. He is also the Director of the Advanced Network Technology Center (ANTC) at the University of Oregon.

Mr. Jonathan Newton

Jonathan currently has responsibility for network technology strategy for all Cable & Wireless Worldwide IP & Data platforms on a global basis, providing direction for the development of new platforms and services.

Jonathan has over 13 years’ experience in communications technology and services. Since 2001, Jonathan has worked extensively in IP/MPLS network architecture and engineering and was technical lead for the development of the C&W next generation IP/MPLS based services platform. His experience includes MPLS Traffic Engineering, Carrier Ethernet, xDSL, Videoconferencing and detailed network modelling and analysis. Jonathan has also co-authored and contributed to technical standards and drafts at the IETF and the UK NICC standards bodies.

Dr. Dan Pitt
Executive Director | Open Networking Foundation


Dan Pitt is Executive Director of the Open Networking Foundation, starting on its public launch in March 2011.

Dan spent twenty years developing networking architecture, technology, standards, and products at IBM Networking Systems in North Carolina, IBM Research Zurich in Switzerland, Hewlett Packard Labs in Palo Alto, and finally at Bay Networks and Nortel Networks in Santa Clara, Cal., where he was vice president of the Bay Architecture Lab and the Enterprise Solutions Technology Center.

From 2002-2007 he served as dean of the school of engineering at Santa Clara University and holder of the Sobrato Chair in Engineering. From 2007-2011 he advised and served in executive operational roles in startup companies in the U.S., Canada, and Australia, most recently as an executive in residence at the Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale, California.

Dan received a B.S. in mathematics (magna cum laude) from Duke University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Illinois. He taught as an adjunct professor at Duke University and the University of North Carolina for ten years and has fifty publications and one patent to his credit.

Dr. Jürgen Quittek

Jürgen Quittek is leading the Network Research Division of NEC Europe in Heidelberg, Germany.

He received his degree in communications engineering from RWTH Aachen, Germany, in 1989 and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH), Germany, in 1996. After a postdoctoral year in Berkeley, California, he joined NEC in 1997. In 2000 he was a visiting professor at Freie Universita╠łt Berlin.

His research interests include network management and energy-efficient communications. He is TPC member or chair of several conferences, particularly within the IEEE Communications Society. At the IETF he co-founded working groups in the Operations and Management area including IPFIX (IP Flow Information Export), PSAMP (Packet Sampling), and EMAN (Energy Management). He is co-chair of the IPFIX WG and co-authored several IPFIX and PSAMP RFCs.

Mr. Alvaro Retana

Distinguished Technologist | Hewlett-Packard


Alvaro Retana is a Distinguished Technologist in the Global Product Solution Architecture Team, which consults with Hewlett-Packard's largest customers on their network transformation projects.

Prior to joining HP Networking, he was a Principal Engineer at Cisco Systems, where he led the Core IP Technology Architecture Team. Alvaro is widely recognized for his expertise in Routing Protocols and Network Design and Architecture; he is a CCIE, CCDE and one of only two people in the world who have achieved the CCAr certification.

He is an active participant in the IETF, where he chairs the Routing Area Working Group, is a member of the Routing Area Directorate and has authored 4 RFCs. Alvaro has published 4 technical books and has been awarded almost 30 patents by the US Patent and Trademark Office. His current interests include DC architecture, controller-based networks, energy efficiency and infrastructure security.

Mr. Rakesh Saha

Director, Product Management, Advanced Networking Technologies | IBM


Rakesh Saha is Director of Product Management for System Networking in the Systems & Technology Group at IBM.

Rakesh leads product management including strategy and roadmap of advanced networking technologies for IBM System Networking, where he is leading SDN (Software Defined Networking), including IBM's OpenFlow product offerings, as well as Network Virtualization, Cloud Networking and Data Center Convergence products.

He has over 15 years of experience in product management, research, design and development of networks and systems. At BLADE Network Technologies (BNT), which was acquired by IBM in 2010, Rakesh served as lead architect and R&D manager for BLADE virtualization and convergence portfolio, delivering industry firsts including the first virtualization-aware switch, the first FCoE converged networking solution, and the first blade server solution integrating IBM Virtual Fabric.

Prior to IBM Rakesh held various senior product management, technical and management roles at BNT and Hewlett-Packard and has patents awarded and pending in system networking and virtualization.

Mr. Rotem Salomonovitch

Rotem Salomonovitch currently holds the Director, IP strategy position within Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Division responsible for the development and promotion of emerging technology areas within Alcatel-Lucent’s IP product portfolio.

Presently, Rotem’s focus is in the areas of Datacentre and Cloud networking, specifically standardisation of these emerging technologies. Rotem has more than 15 years experience with Service Provider networks, services and business applications. During that time, he held various leading positions in both incumbent and competitive service providers including operational, design, architecture and strategic advisory roles. He is an active participator in industry forums, conferences and technical publications.

In addition to his role at Alcatel-Lucent, Rotem currently holds the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) APAC co-chair position whereby he is responsible for all technical and marketing activities that the MEF engages within the region.

Mr. Mike Spanbauer

Mr. Jungsik Suh

Jung-Sik Suh is the head of Cloud Business Unit in KT Corporation, which is at the core of the Cloud revolution and leading the Cloud business in the Korean market.

He studied Business Administration at Seoul National University and gained his MBA from University of California Berkeley at the Haas School of Business. His professional career includes a number of business development, marketing, and strategic roles both within KT and previously at Hanaro Telecom. Mr. Phil Tilley

Phil Tilley currently holds the position of Head of IP Portfolio Strategy in Europe for Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Division. His responsibilities include developing the market awareness of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP product portfolio, working with service providers to ensure success with their business services portfolio and building the required IP skills within Alcatel-Lucent to support a market leading IP portfolio.

Phil is also the Global marketing Co-Chair for the MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) where he is working with other vendors and service provider members to increase awareness and adoption of Carrier Ethernet.

Phil has more than 15 years engineering and marketing experience. He has worked closely with many carriers throughout Europe advising on the latest market trends. He joined Newbridge Networks in 1992, prior to its acquisition by Alcatel, starting as an approvals engineer. Phil has a Bachelor of Science degree in electronic engineering from the University College of North Wales.

Mr. Bruno De Troch

Bruno De Troch is a Technical Lead in the Technologies and Solutions group for Juniper Networks EMEA, where he focuses on Carrier Ethernet solutions and Network Management.

He started at Juniper Networks 11 years ago in various consulting roles, providing guidance to carriers and large enterprises on how to design and optimise their IP/MPLS networks and how to deploy successful Ethernet Services.

Prior to joining Juniper Networks, Mr. De Troch served as a Captain in the Belgian Armed Forces and as a Design Engineer with BT.

Mr. Johannes Weingart

Johannes Weingart works for euNetworks since October 2011 and in his current role he is responsible for the definition and management of the company’s Metro Wavelength Services product portfolio.

Before joining euNetworks Johannes worked as Head of Product Management for TeraGate AG which was acquired by euNetworks in July 2011.

Previously Johannes worked as Solution Manager at ADVA Optical Networking. In this role, he was responsible for identification of applications and definition of solutions for the carrier infrastructure networks market segment. This included business and portfolio strategy recommendations as well as sales enabling and market communication support.

Prior to that, he worked for BT Global Services, where he was involved in definition and launch of BT’s Global Ethernet Service Portfolio.

Johannes has also held various positions in Siemens, including SDH equipment and system development, product management for network management systems and network operation consulting. He holds a degree in Information Technology Engineering from the University of Munich.
