2. Zhejiang Mobile successfully constructed a multi-vendor and ETSI-compliant NFV/SDN based Telco Cloud architecture. It has also completed migration feasibility verification of traditional telecom services to the Telco cloud architecture to ensure consistent service experience.

Open vCPE

Open vCPE, a collaboration between Cloudify and VMware, helps service providers deliver an Open-vCPE and SD-WAN solution in record time. Partner Communications recently used this solution to launch a virtual, managed service offering in only three months rather than the 12-18 months typically required.

A rapid conversion to NFV enables service providers to provide next-generation services to customers, position themselves as a leader in edge computing, and reduce cost-per-customer to deliver network services.




Huawei develops multiple types of CPE to match the varied requirements from different enterprises, including physical type and virtual type, for physical type, it includes traditional CPE, thin CPE, uCPE based on X86 or ARM64 chipset, it supports rich types of interfaces for multiple access mode, such as FE/GE, XDSL, PON, LTE etc. while deployed on enterprise premise. For virtual type, Huawei has CloudCPE, which can be deployed on both uCPE and DC. On carrier market, Huawei has deployed these CPEs for carrier in Spain and carrier in Japan.




CPE is addressing simultaneously SPs, providing managed services, and large enterprises, seeking to optimize their own infrastructure. In both cases, CPE HW will have to be adjusted to deliver the required services and to integrate with the overall environment, for which you will need an independent network specialist with deep multi-disciplinary skillset to connect all the pieces seamlessly. This is the uCPE challenge.

In 2013 Intel identified the need to create a cross industry ecosystem of partner companies to address the complexities in the development of SDN & NFV solutions. It was also recognized that there was a need to move to open source and open standards based development practices in order to simplify and accelerate deployment of innovative new services.

Intel Network Builders, which has a community of 280+ members, was launched with the vision of accelerating network transformation by promoting innovation and collaboration between community members, by working with a cross industry ecosystem to address critical network transformation challenges.

NEC/Netcracker's Ecosystem 2.0 Program is the next evolution in partner collaboration necessary to commercialize multi-vendor virtualized services. RIFT.ware Partner

RIFT.ware is a model-driven, ETSI-compliant NFV MANO solution that automates deployment of VNFs and simplifies the composition and management of complex network services.

The RIFT.ready Partner program is an ecosystem of business and technology partners designed to facilitate interoperability between network and application vendors, systems integrators, communication and software-as-a-service providers to simplify and accelerate NFV/SDN deployments.



Wind River Titanium Cloud Ecosystem

The Wind River Titanium Cloud Ecosystem program ensures the availability of optimized, interoperable solutions that accelerate time-to-market for service providers and TEMs deploying NFV infrastructure.

Through our ecosystem program, Nokia AirFrame Data Center Solution has been pre-integrated and validated with Titanium Cloud. By extension, AirFrame is also pre-validated with dozens of other components, providing proven end-to-end solutions that span multiple layers within the overall NFV architecture.

Through the program, Wind River has further collaborated with Nokia to address key challenges for Cloud-RAN.

EnterpriseWeb Metamodel for a Virtual Function Package

EnterpriseWeb has collaborated with leading CSPs and vendors to demonstrate interoperability in complex, open, multi-vendor eco-systems. Last year the company contributed a "Metamodel for a Virtual Function Package", to the TMF.

The Metamodel represents a universal template for onboarding VNFs, which allows mapping of proprietary interfaces to standards-based APIs, while capturing unique characteristics of each discrete VNF. The Metamodel provides a flexible, extensible and adaptable model for capturing functional descriptions of VNFs as well as non-functional metadata and metrics for managing them. The Metamodel allows CSPs to streamline onboarding and automate downstream processes and lifecycle management.



Wind River Titanium Cloud Ecosystem

The Wind River Titanium Cloud Ecosystem program ensures the availability of optimized, interoperable solutions that accelerate time-to-market for service providers and TEMs deploying NFV infrastructure.

Stemming from our ecosystem collaboration, Wind River, Dell EMC and Saguna have worked to enable MEC as a new telco business opportunity.

Through our program, Dell EMC servers and Saguna MEC middleware have been pre-integrated and validated with the Titanium Cloud platform. By extension, these partner solutions are also pre-validated with dozens of other components, providing proven end-to-end solutions that spans multiple layers within the overall NFV architecture.

Huawei OPNFV Contribution

Huawei in the OPNFV community led the development of 12 community projects, ranking first in the member units. Top 2 Community code contribution number and code submission. Dovetail, Compass and other projects become OPNFV community's most influential projects by the lead of Huawei.

In addition, Huawei has organized and participated in several OPNFV Summit, Plugfest, Meetup and other activities, and actively showing the latest OPNFV community development results, and to promote the OPNFV certification project was established, so that OPNFV become the most influential open source community NFV industry.



Open Source MANO (OSM)

ETSI Open Source MANO (OSM) is a collaborative open community focused on delivering an open source Management and Orchestration (MANO) stack aligned with ETSI NFV Information Models.

As an operator-led community, OSM is offering a production-quality open source MANO stack that meets the requirements today and in the future for competitive, commercial NFV networks. Since its inception in February 2016, OSM has grown to encompass almost 80 organizations and three releases.

MEFnet Service Fulfilment and Activation

The nomination is submitted by ECI Telecom on behalf of itself and the other project partners, Tata Communications, TI Sparkle, and PCCW Global. The nomination is for a MEFnet Third Network Service Fulfilment and Activation project, that enables the creation, management and assurance of innovative services that span multiple SPs, to speed up realization of the Third Network Ecosystem.

The MEF Third Network envisions an ecosystem where end-users can exercise on-demand control over advanced services and cloud connectivity, spanning administrative domains within and between service providers. The services are delivered over SDN-automated, NFV-virtualized, and LSO-interconnected networks.



Huawei Cloud Open Labs

Huawei Cloud Open Labs provide SDN/NFV integrated testing and certification service. We devote to the establishment of open ecosystem with the industry multi-dimensional cooperation. Currently, we have completed 46 cooperative test projects, including 93 scenes of interoperability verification / certification, POC and commercial. And completed verification/certification test with 60+ vendors, accumulated issued 48 certifications, received 13 partners' certifications.

Huawei Cloud Open Labs provide a complete multi-vendor test environment, including traditional PNF network and VNF network, covering the whole network of products, involving 500+ kinds of equipment, 110+ solutions, and 100+ verification projects experience.



VMware Ready for NFV

VMware Ready for NFV is a comprehensive certification program that assures interoperability and operational readiness between 3rd party-developed VNFs and the ETSI-compliant VMware vCloud NFV platform. The program ensures that Communications Service Providers can rapidly onboard and deploy multi-vendor VNFs with the VMware vCloud NFV platform enabling seamless service deployment and faster time to revenue while reducing operational complexities.

The program is open to all VNF vendors and ETSI use cases. The extensive and detailed tests are conducted by VMware engineers with input from VMware NFV customers.

Individual Achievement: Contribution to Network Transformation



Don Clarke

NFV did not exist as a topic prior to publication of a white paper in October 2012. Don Clarke then at BT led the creation of this paper which was co-authored by 13 global carriers and is widely regarded to be the seminal document introducing the NFV concept.

The carriers outlined the benefits and challenges and defined the term "Network Function Virtualisation" or simply "NFV." The paper was the culmination of months of discussions amongst the carriers led by Don who went on to co-found ETSI NFV and OPNFV.



Mirko Voltolini

Mirko's contribution towards accelerating the development and adoption of SDN and NFV has made a profound impact on the business and the industry at large, making him a proven leader in network transformation. He is the driver of the technological evolution which led to the early adoption of these technologies and has laid the foundations and driven this transformation.

The strength of Mirko's vision and leadership touches all angles of the journey from technological strategy, digital transformation, commercial innovation, partner management and industry recognition. His contributions have accelerated Colt's transformation, making Colt a recognised industry leader in SDN and NFV.

Individual Achievement: Contribution to Open Source / Open Networking



Huang Zhipeng

Zhipeng Huang is nominated for the individual achievement award for his activities in OpenStack , OPNFV as well as ETSI.



Tian Hongbo

Commercial multi-vendors integration has become a huge challenge. For this issue, Hongbo Tian is leading contributions with industry to implement the compliance and certification program(C&C) in OPNFV.

As C&C member, he helps define the guideline for C&C. Also he is leading the dovetail project to implement and release the C&C for related the commercial products. As chair, he organized the first OPNFV plugfest event for interoperability testing covering OPNFV platform and commercial platforms. He was elected as the TSC member for promoting the program. OPNFV compliance and certification program is becoming an important interpretability testing program for SDN VNF platforms.



Luis Gomez Palacios

Elected by peers to the Technical Steering Committee of OpenDaylight, Luis Gomez Palacios is a top 5 code contributor to the community. His focus is in solving the complex challenges of deployment to live networks, especially in test and qualification.

His many contributions in bringing open software to production networks come from the real world experiences of Lumina Networks' customers. These include a Top 5 service provider, where Luis is an integral member of their network transformation team. Recently, Luis has also led and delivered much of the effort to define, develop and test the interworking of OpenDaylight OpenFlow-based applications.



Andrew Alleman

As Chief Technology Officer responsible for Radisys' technology and product vision, Andrew Alleman has championed Radisys participation within the open source community, including the Open Compute Project (OCP).

Under his leadership, Radisys became the leading contributor to the OCP-ACCEPTED CG-OpenRack-19 specification, a scalable, carrier-grade, rack-level system that integrates high-performance compute, storage, and networking in a standard rack.

The CG-OpenRack-19 specification provides a high level of modularity and simplicity, reducing system setup time and operator costs, and providing high performance per watt and per rack. Rack-scale platform solutions based on the CG-OpenRack-19 specification are being deployed by multiple tier-one service providers.

Innovation & Technology: Best Energy Efficiency




Global information and communications technology (ICT) emissions are increasing due to bandwidth growth. Solutions are required that can compensate for the increase in energy-consumption and emissions.

The ADVA FSP 3000 product line has been among the most energy-efficient WDM systems for more than 10 years. With latest innovations, it is approaching efficiency of 0.1 W/Gb/s, a value not seen in optical transmission systems so far. This technology will enable our industry to compensate for the emissions increase in the wireline-networks ICT segment. The Carrier Edge Data Center with Immersion Liquid Cooling System reduces the efficiency of power usage in DC massively. The useage of immersion cooling inside of the server, compared with the traditional air cooling, significantly reduces thermal resistance during the process.

At the same time with the help of fluoride steam,cold water, and semiconductor thermoelectric power generation equipment, the system allows to use the waste-heat for further processing. Through the hot and cold sides of the thermoelectric power generation equipment, it leverages the Saibel effect to convert the fluoride steam energy after cooling directly into electrical energy.

Software-defined network (SDN) Based NFVI

SmartWAN campaign

The Ensemble division of ADVA Optical Networking launched its SmartWAN campaign in December 2016. The key objectives of this campaign were to inform our target customers and the larger market about the issues with today's implementation of SD-WAN, and the better approach that Ensemble could provide.

EE and Huawei worked together to successfully deploy Europe's largest commercial virtualized PCRF (Policy and Charging Rules Function) solution, which is based on NFV technology.

The multi-vendor solution increases the complexity of system integration, and to minimize integration risks, the NFV solution was pre-integration and pre-validation in the test labs. In total it requires 2 months to complete the voice PCRF deployment that support 20M subscribers.
