Network Automation Award Winners

Layer123 is pleased to announce the winners of the 2020 Network Automation Awards, held as part of the virtual Network Automation Webinar on 22 April. There were winners in five categories, with Cisco victorious in two categories - one in partnership with Telia Carrier - and Huawei, Mavenir and Telefónica also scooping prizes.

With the winners chosen by an independent judging panel, the Network Automation Awards aim to recognise operators and solution providers that have delivered outstanding solutions in creating more efficient, powerful and automated network services across the telecommunications sector. Reflecting the cooperation needed across the ecosystem to deliver network automation, winners include both vendors and network operators – with a range of solutions catching the eye of the judges.

The winners in each category were:

Best Automated Network: Telefónica

Telefónica emerged victorious in this category thanks to the Fusion network, which greatly optimises visibility and automation in real time using Nokia’s Deerfield Cloud analytics platform. With a 20-40% increase in network usage during the Covid-19 outbreak in Spain, the Telefónica network has been able to soak up the increased growth curve thanks to this and other developments – with a culture of network automation embedded in the company.

Best Network Automation Solution: Cisco

Cisco won the Best Network Automation Solution awards for the Cisco Crosswork Network Controller, which allows greater overall control for customers in their pursuit of making their network applications-aware. This has led to significantly optimised automation network behaviour, allowing greater network respond speeds to changing business and application needs.

Best OpenRAN Solution: Mavenir

Collaboration with Turkish operator Turkcell earned Mavenir recognition in the OpenRAN category. The Mavenir team tested and deployed OpenRAN vRAN throughout the Turkcell Group to create a faster, more automated network. In addition, Mavenir has been as the forefront of the TIP OpenRAN project group – continuing to lead the drive towards open networking in the RAN space.
