Planning a backhaul evolution path for LTE
• Examining how spectrum availability and radio evolution will impact LTE backhaul choices, considering prevailing conditions for:
- Upgrade of HSPA
- Overlay of LTE
• Identifying the backhaul requirements of the LTE ready IP architecture:
- Need for raw capacity
- Supporting for mesh architectures
• Integrating backhaul into the fixed aggregation infrastructure – how and where will this take place?
• Getting from today’s dedicated multi-technology backhaul infrastructure to a converged flat IP infrastructure supporting LTE and previous mobile generations:
- Technology choices – is MPLS needed or is Ethernet enough?
- How can a strong fibre footprint be leveraged for best effect?
- How will the microwave platform evolve?
- Supporting 2G, 3G and LTE traffic from shared base station sites
